This didn't get much of a write up in other reviews elsewhere. However, I must have been lucky as I saw great reef life including seahorses. Not much big stuff though. Need to go deeper to avoid the worst of the swell. Beware exit and entry as the swell from the reef is considerable. Trou d'eau douce bay is also known as wales.

You can dive from the lagoon and let you drift to the pass to finish your dive in the ocean. In the pass, you will see big fishes like tunas, barraccudas or sharks. There is a lot of current. Stay deep at the beginning. Choose the areas where you want to stop (some large holes deeper protects you from the current and let you have a nice view to the fishes). I saw my first grey coral shark (2,5m) there. All the sites have been named by a passionate diver well known in Mauritius Ben Cadet since 1990 when he first open his dive centre at hotel Ambre. By boat. From the public beach in front of the Diving Center at the Emeraude Hotel. You can see "la passe" from the beach: where there is no wave! La passe de Belle Mare is also known as La passe.
