Great reef, including a lot of different sharks (Hammerhead sharks, Grey reef sharks, Whitetip reef sharks). A must!

Sanganeb - North Point

Saganeb West

An excellent night dive.

Approx 14 nautical miles NE of Port Sudan. The dive site is on both side of the southern lighthouse jetty.

Sanganeb South

A great dive site, much more interesting than the closer Conshelf site (only interesting because of the Cousteau's historic experiment and wonderful hard and soft corals).

Here you find everything! From the tiny sea slug to hammerhead sharks, jacks, tunas, etc.

I am amazed that 2-5 kt is a "moderate" current: this is absolutely impossible to do anything but drift! Actual currents are less, and you can stay on the reef.

I saw a tiger shark.

Extreme south of Sha'ab Rumi reef.

Sha'ab Rumi South

Probably one of the most well-known dive site of Sudan! This was the place for Jacques Cousteau's Conshelf II experiment in 1963. The rest of a dome is still at 9 m deep just south after the west passage of the reef.

A very classical dive of the area.

East part of Winegate Reef, 6 nautical miles east northeast of Port Sudan. There is an automatic navigation light just near the dive site on the reef.

Winegate Reef East

The wreck "Umbria" has a cargo of 360.000 bombs that makes the exploring of the wreck still more exciting. The "Umbria" is one of the most famous sunken ships in the world. Lying in the shelter of Wingate Reef, just outside Port Sudan and largely unaffected by currents and tides, it is within easy reach of Port Sudan harbour. The wreck lies at an angle on her port side with her starboard davits breaking the surface. At a maximum depth of 36m, the Umbria is shallow by most wreck divers' standards. Snorkelers will be able to explore much of the wreck's upper area while scuba divers will benefit from the extended bottom time possible on the ship's shallower sections. With plenty of light and good visibility, entering most of the ship is easy. The hull itself is completely intact, if heavily encrusted with marine life, and can be explored internally and externally along its entire length.

Port Sudan is the main port of the country. Dive access by boat, though facilities in this country for divers are limited! 

Umbria Wreck

Nor far from the Umbria wreck. May be a good second dive.

South part of Wingate Reef, 3.3 nautical miles east northeast of Port Sudan. Watch for White Hut automatic navigation light!

Sha'ab Su'adi reef

The Blue Belt was a cargo that sunk december 2, 1977. It was carying many Toyota vehicles when she sunk. She lies upside down on the drop-off, between 15m and 70+m.
