Snorkeling and Scuba Diving at Island of Moorea, off Tahiti

We were on Moorea at the Sofitel Ia Ora & had a wonderful time snorkeling in shallow, clear, warm, calm water right at the resort. It was much better than anything we have done in the Caribbean. Margaret Behme

I can't believe there is only one dive site for the entire island! This is a great place for scuba/snorkel anything you want! The shore diving is great in the Opunohu Bay. You can go at the public beach on the North east shore, there is a little spot where there is a white house with a big wall and coconut trees hanging over the water, we called it White House Wall. This has a fringe reef which drops off and has an underwater wall covered with all sorts of fish and cool corals. On the other side of Opunohu Bay there is a Coconut grove which is closer to the barrier reef which is great spot to snorkel or dive. There are many other places to dive including the motus on the Northwest side of the island and in Cook's Bay. This is an amazing place! Go for a dive on the outside of the reef for a even more amazing dive. I can't wait to go back!

Lagunarium. This is a little motu offshore between Vaiare and Afareaitu. When we were there, there was just a sign on a tiny roadside stand and a guy with an outrigger to take you out to the motu. We have snorkeled on Kauai, Maui, the Big Island, Curacao, and Cozumel. Nothing we have seen comes close to this. They feed the fish in one of the little bays and there are turtles, small blacktip sharks, mobs of fish, big eels and so much more. They also had cables out to the reef and the coral was spectacular. So many fish and melon sized clams. We've read recently they have a snack stand now so I hope it's still there and going well.
