This is one of my least favorite sites to dive. The walk to the shore diving entry is LONG. The surface swim is VERY LONG (a boat is recommended) Then once you get out there the visibility is most likely to be very poor and the surf is likely to be big. There are some cool animals and reef topography here if you are lucky enough to see more than 3 feet in front of you. Best diving is around the point in the kelp forest (again boat recommended). I had a friend see a thresher shark here. It is kind of a 'sharky' area with the Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery right up the coast. I was doing a research project and would not come here for a fun dive.

I can't believe there is only one dive site for the entire island! This is a great place for scuba/snorkel anything you want! The shore diving is great in the Opunohu Bay. You can go at the public beach on the North east shore, there is a little spot where there is a white house with a big wall and coconut trees hanging over the water, we called it White House Wall. This has a fringe reef which drops off and has an underwater wall covered with all sorts of fish and cool corals. On the other side of Opunohu Bay there is a Coconut grove which is closer to the barrier reef which is great spot to snorkel or dive. There are many other places to dive including the motus on the Northwest side of the island and in Cook's Bay. This is an amazing place! Go for a dive on the outside of the reef for a even more amazing dive. I can't wait to go back!

This site has a relatively easy entry and is close to lots of local amenities. Visibility is often very bad especially late spring, summer and early fall. The bottom topography is mainly small outcroppings with a few Macrocystis (giant Kelp). I did multiple dives at this site as part of a research project and only had one day of wonderful visibility. So if you get lucky there are some cool things to see.
