Iceland

The area are made from volcanoes, lava and earth quakes. The lava have filter the water in the crack and in the lake that is the reason for the clarity of the water. And because of the earth quake the water in the river is 17°c warm. In the dive you can see Arctic charr and big trout.This dive site was discovered in 2009.

Strytan the gigant submarine cone rise 50 meters from the seafloor in Eyjafjordur northen Iceland and the top of the cone is 15m under the surface. There are great geothermal activity and there is around 100 l/pr.sec of 75°c hot water that comes out of the cone. Strytan was discovered by the diver Erlendur Bogason  in 1997.

This dive site is underwater protected area by Icelandic law. That is not forbidden to dive at Strytan but we recommend you ask local DC so you can get all the informations you need for the dive.

Arnarnesstrytur are underwater protected area by Icelandic law. The protected are are 400m wide and 1000m long with bottom depth from 16m to 42m. On the bottom are small geothermal chimneys where 79°c fresh hot water are steaming out. At the cones and around them are lot of fish and at the bottom you can find various Arctic animal life.

The Arctic cirkle cross the island Grimsey. So in this dive you can dive under or over the Arctic cirkle. Around the island are lot of whales and fish. But this is the only place where I have been diving with the Puffin and guillemots sea birds in clear sea.

Imagine a large fissure filled up with icy, but crystal clear water, having a visibility of 50 meters and more, no suspended plankton, water just like the air around you. This is Silfra!
The sensational experience while diving in Silfra is just outstanding. The first part of the fissure is characterized by a deep cave leading under the road. The following part is divided by several deep ponds that are connected by tunnels in between the lava rocks. Even more impressive are the deep canyons that go down to 59 meters. From the bottom, the bubbles are searching their way up to the surface, disappearing in the intense blue filtered sunlight breaking the surface. 

The landscape is marked geographically by a huge depression between two rifts running north-east. As the two main continental tectonic plates are drifting here apart (2 cm per year), the rift valley is constantly sinking. The result of this geological phenomenon is the lake Þingvallavatn - the largest natural lake in Iceland.
