Top Snorkeling and Scuba Diving in Belgium

A wonderful quarry but unfortunately the owners are not really cool. Moreover you can do only one dive per day, maximum 2 if you book; but it worth to go. La Gombe is situated in Esneux (20 km from Liege) near to the center of the town.

This private quarry has a web site explaining all facilities: http://www.carrierevillers.be. It's open during the WE and for night-dives. Artificil stuffs: Small truck, rails, motobike, small boat, wagon, car... Watch out for the few rusted steel bars protruding (max. 1 meter) from the walls at various places. 25 km S of Charleroi, between Cerfontaine and Philippeville.

A sweetwater lake used mostly for clubs around it to train beginners. A lot of objects have been placed underwater. Like columns, statues, paintings, silo's and even a small wreck. Visibility isn't the greatest (between 1 and 5m). But lately the fish population starts to become intresting. (maybe time to introduce a couple of pikes)

Take motorway (E19), after Nivelles exit at Feluy, turn right then left to Ecaussines. At the water tower, turn right at the diving sign. Diving not allowed since 2001 Carrière de Scoufflény is also known as Ecaussinnes.

Water temp: From 4° to 18°C From Bruxelles : E40 to Liège or from Lille-Mons-Charleroi-Namur : E42 to Liège. Then from Liège, follow the "Ardennes" direction and take E25 to Luxembourg, take exit #45, then follow the N678 to Sprimont. In Sprimont turn left and take N30 for 500m then turn right (rue de l'Hôtel de Ville). Follow the direction "route buissonnière" for 1km. The quarry is signed from the center of the village. Carriere de Lille Sprimont is also known as Lille Sprimont.

Nemo 33 is a PADI certified indoor dive center that features the deepest dive pool in the world. It's a great place to keep up on dive skills when traveling or over the winter. They have all of the equipment so you don't need to bring anything with you. While this is an enclosed environment, and has a pool-like feel, it is NOT diving in a pool. There is plenty of depth, and provides a great opportunity to work on dive skills at all levels. This is a very popular site in Belgium. There is a bus and helicopter sunk at the site to explore. There are several other interesting things on the bottom as well. I found a 3m tall wine cask, a statue of a scuba diver, several "road signs", etc. The lake is home to lots of small fish, and a few larger perch can usually be seen near the bus. One of the best things about it is the restaurant. They have GREAT steaks for a very reasonable price. Pre-order when you get there in the morning, dive, then have a steak lunch during your surface interval. Tank re-fills are available for 3 euro, and the fee for diving there is 3 euro per day...total of 6 euro plus 10 euro for a great lunch makes for a very reasonable dive day. Road is clearly marked coming from Philippeville about 10 kms. away. Plate Taille is one of 5 artificial lakes in the area and they're all connected by the surrounding "route des barrages" road loop. The diving centre is next to the dam to the south-east. Two parking areas: a sloping paved road leading to the cafeteria and the diving entry point, and the grass parking lot to its left. The area to the right is used as heliport by the emergency services. Plate Taille is also known as Lake Taille, Barrage de l'Eau d'Heure.

Used and administrated by the Dive School of Namur. Price for a dive is 3 euros. 2 containers are used for changing, one container is used as a pub serving local special beers of Floreffe. A few items are immersed including 2 sail boats. Plants and fish are usually close from the starting point. A five minute climb from the water allows divers to get to the parking and to the containers. From A15/E42 motorway, take exit 12-Namur for N4 toward Gembloux/La Bruyère. Turn left at N4 and after 2 traffic lights, turn right at N958 (signs for Floreffe/N958). Forward for 6 km to the bridge with a traffic light. Take right, not to most right, keep on the main road, N90. Go through the first roundabout and take the first exit at the second one, direction Jemeppe/Sambre. After 500m take the street on the right, then on the left to the parking. Floreffe is also known as Flato.

From Philippeville, drive to Givet (N46) and go through Viller-le-Gambon village. 800 meters after the village, take the road called "Franchimont track" and follow the dive center signs "La Roche Fontaine". Carrière de Rochefontaine is also known as Rochefontaine quarry.
