8Big Mama's Reef
Beautiful dive site, east of the HMS Proselyte. A large sandy area with an enormous reef surrounding it. Numerous larger fish and plentiful Caribbean Reef Sharks. This is also the site of a Shark Awareness Dive so the sharks are always nearby and always give a tremendous experience to divers of all levels This site is only accessible by boat, about 30 minute ride from Simpson Bay lagoon, on the east side of the island south of Bobby's Marina in Philipsburg.

10HMS Proselyte
Dutch frigate, originally named the Jason, launched in 1770. In 1796, the crew mutinied and handed the ship over to the British, who renamed the ship HMS Proselyte. In September of 1801, on a trip from St Kitts to St Martin, the ship struck the Man O War Shoals and sank. All of the crew were rescued, however. You can still see a couple of large anchors, some cannons and other heavily encrusted objects on the sea floor, right below the current mooring. Plenty of wildlife in around the reef. If you're lucky you may even encounter one or two Caribbean Reef sharks prowling the canyons. South of Great bay. The site is equipped with mooring buoys. This dive site is part of the St Maarten Marine Park. You need to have a valid dive tag to be diving on this site. (see www.naturefoundationsxm.org) HMS Proselyte is also known as Jason.

14Divi
A few hundred yards from shore is where a lot of dive and snorkel boats bring cruise passengers. There is a sunken boat and a fair number of fish at this site. While not nearly as good as isle Pinnel for snorkeling, the water is calm, the facilities are very good, and it is easy to get to Divi resort from the cruise ships. There is little corral or vegetation. The main draw is the nondescript ship wreck and the fish that are regularly fed by snorkelers. Rock formations are interesting, but again the reef at Pinnel is much better. However, Divi is an easy fun place to go to for non-snorkelers in the group. Divi is a beach resort near where the boats dock at Phillipsburg. Divi is located at little bay. I took a taxi from the boat to Divi Resort for $4.00/person.
