Feb 2003. It was raining in the morning and the surf was up. A local dive instructor pointed us to the calmer entry beyond the reef (to the right), and we dived all the way around and came out to the left (closer to the bathhouse). We exited in bright clear sunshine, which was kind of weird because we remembered thick clouds and rain. So-so reef in terms of diversity, a turtle or two, nothing special.

Dived twice in Feb 2003. Firstt time we came across huge old turtles just past the entry. Second time we had fun in the caves with a turtle and lots of fishes. Poor viz but easy to get an enjoyable 80 or 90 minute dive out of a 12-liter (80cu.ft.) tank. Something fun to do on the the days when you can't afford boat diving, but I wouldn't make a special trip to Hawaii for it.

We did 6 dives here in Feb. 2003. Twice to the north (out to next cove and beyond) and 4 times south and east. Out to the north we saw eagle rays, a whale shark (briefly but got a photo), to the south turtles etc, etc. Lava formations are fun, the entry is easier than any other Kona site when the NW swell is up in the winter, and it's so close to town.
