This is a great crabbing place. Most often called the "North Jetty," this site has lots of crab, few fish, and incredible tides. Diving during slack is important if you don't want to walk a long way. Vis was around 15 feet when we went (Dec 12) and we came up with a goody bag full of crab. If you stop by the Scuba shop in Florence, they can give you maps of the underwater showing depths and such. Surface swim to the green buoy just south of entry, then go down. This will ensure you have plenty of air where the crabbing is good.

I have done approximately 12 dives here spanning from August to December 2003. The best vis was in late September to October which was around 15 to 20 feet. Lots of perch, lingcod, rock fish, greenling, etc. Not much for crabbing though. I have dove slack and during tidal exchange either of which you can do. If diving during tides, plan on doing a semi-drift dive. Overall, pretty good.

My brother and I dove here on the 21st of September just after high tide. The tide actually helped us in our pursuit of crab. If you swim in the North/South direction, any silt you kick up will get swept away by the tide going out to sea. We stayed next to the pier poles as most of the crab did. We saw lots of giant clam shells, perch, red rock and Dungeness crab, and another fish I have not yet been able to identify. We really enjoyed this dive. Vis was 8-10 feet.
