Tahoe1840's Dive Log
La Jolla Shores on 3/12/2012
This site has not had an eval for over a year, on 10 March 2012 the viz was extremely dark, slight red tide was occurring. The area is undergoing a face lift of sorts, a lot of construction was going on in the parking area. Get there before 7 AM if you want a decent parking spot on a Saturday.
La Jolla Cove on 3/12/2012
This evaluation is strictly to report visibility for March 9th, 2012. POOR. Five to 10 feet maximum. Talked to a lifeguard who reported they were experiencing a slight Red Tide. Diving was OK just poor viz.
Rubicon Point, Tahoe on 5/13/2011
I DM a boat last summer that dove this site every time. It is a great site for the experienced diver. The wall is amazing, kind of like rock climbing under water. We have seen Brown Trout at 20 + inches. Incredible dive when looking into the abyss of Lake Tahoe. Please do not exceed 90 feet if recreational dive. The altitude combined with water temps puts you at a theoretical depth of 126 feet. Be Safe.
Breakwater Cove on 5/13/2011
Helping with a OW class on March 27th 2011 we dove the Breakwater. I have dove this site at times when the viz was over 40 feet and the wildlife was spectacular, if you want a seal or sea lion encounter this is the place. They are all over the place. The reason I pen this note is to advise all divers to avoid at all cost the deli across from the dive shop. The owners do not like diver's money. They will be rude to you if you do not spend enough and take up their seats. Believe me I have seen it happen. They so embarrassed some friends of ours they got up and walked out never to return. There are other places to eat just down the street towards Cannery Row.
