The reef is very healthy with big table corals, barrel sponges, gorgonian sea fans and various species of anemone. This all attracts a huge variety of fish life from; frogfish, ornate ghost pipefish, seahorses and nudibranchs to lionfish, batfish, huge moray eels and schools of pelagics such as barracudas and trevallies. Its also one of the more likely spots around Koh Lipe to encounter leopard sharks or even a whale shark! The site is exposed to currents so can't be dived every day and usually only at slack tide. Locals call it "Plo Nam" Rumor has it: discovered by Jaque Cousteu. The best dive site in Thailand, but the viz is not excellent (Especially at large plankton blooms) (generally around 10m). Sealife is exceptional, large fish shoals Barracuda, Snapper, Trevally, also invertebrates... Richelieu Rock has everything- Micro and macro. Porcelain crabs, Tiger Tail Sea Horses, Pipefish, Nudis, Harlequin Shrimp.... very little predator sharks You can expect to see whale sharks (from february to may) Whaleshark and Mantas both frequent the area. Best times are beginning and end of dive season when plankton blooms are highest. The rock is located southeast of Surin Islands. 20 nm W of Kuraburi, Phang Nga
