Another spectacular wall dive site on Pemba. The corals are in pristine condition and the reef full of life. Many different coral formations. Just outside the channel between Njao and Fundi island. Topside landscape is beautiful, but under the surface is so much better. There are several very nice dive sites in this area, so make sure to try more than one. 20 minute boat ride from resort. Easy roll back from boat and the reef starts 5 meters down.
Njao Gap

Njao gap has about six spots within it that are each completely different to each other. From Table Coral Garden's and probably every type of coral known to the Indian Ocean, dropping over the End of the World to incredible depths beyond the giant Gorgonian fan corals at 30-40 metres. Trigger Wall and Trigger Corner and other walls with various names depending on who is leading your dive are truly beautiful examples of what the oceans coral should be like without the effects of man and climate changes. A short boat ride from any one of two Centres. Manta Reef Hotel Lodge or Swahili Divers Camp will take you to the six great spots located in this great area between the north point of Njao Island and Pemba itself. Njao Gap is also known as Njao Gap.

The coral diversity and abundancy on this site is spectacular. Pristine condition and lots of life. The site itself is very easy to dive. From about 10 m. the wall continues down to at least 30 meters. The entire wall filled with coral. A very scenic dive. It is recommended to dive this site (and other Pemba sites) with a dive center who is familiar with this area. Drop off from boat and top of reef is just 5-10 meters down.

System of sea mountains running parallel to the wall on a platform 25m down. The mountains have different profiles; from just a few meter up to 100m long. The thing to do here is drift dive over the system going from one mountain to another discovering the amazing reef life. Full of fish in big schools and very healthy coral. 20 min. boat ride from the resort. Easy access with a back roll from boat.

Mountain like landscape with hills topped with pristine corals and valleys with sandy bottoms. Really beautiful site, steemed with life. Anemone fish, butterflies, all the usual reef fish. Only reachable by boat, but it is a less than 20 minute boat ride from the resort. Easy back roll access and the reef starts 5-10 meters down.

The top of this wall is between 8 to 15 metres deep, dropping dramatically in some areas to more than 200 metres. The precipitous cliffs are adorned with gorgonian sea fans and whip corals. Extraordinary table coral formations on top of the wall and anemones cities. The wall continues to gently fall down, all covered of lettuce coral, gorgonian, and sponges till 25m depth. The north-western tip of Fundo Island.

This is truly an impeccable area of five incredibly unspoilt (to Date) dive sites where Pemba's Fundo Island and Njao Island face each other. Still my favourite dive area. A few Examples then: Njao wall (Emelio's Passage) is an exhilarating fast drift dive not for the faint hearted. I sometimes experienced this dive covering 2km in just 25mins! Opposite this wall is one of the most incredible wall dives starting on the outer west corner on the Fundo side and heading in toward Pemba you can start slow with macro and as the current picks you up 20 mins later you fly past majestic views of the wall and coral to your right and the larger Pelagic fish to your left. Manta Point, named for its Manta encounters of years gone by (unfortunately not any more) is a hill away fro both Njao and Fundo west of the gap itself with a massive drop on side to infinity. An explosion of colours and thousands of marine species with a different show for you on each dive. Another Favourite with all visitors. A short Boat ride from either one of two dive operations. Swahili Divers Camp are the closest and fastest or for a lot more money you can stay in Luxury Manta Reef Lodge Hotel to reach this truly impeccable area of five incredibly unspoilt (to Date) dive sites where Pemba's Fundo Island and Njao Island face each other.
