We went off of SE 8th st and snorkeled out past even with the pier and then went down. Rocky, rubble bottom to cross and then you come to a ledge and a rock platform. After the long swim over the plateau you come to the drop off. A must for all divers. Lots of stone fish, eels, larger reef fish, lobster and much more. A nice reef with color and life.

After a 300 yard or so swim from shore, we came upon the first ledge facing the beach (depth 8-10 feet) It seemed like every reef critter came out today. Saw a small Hawksbill Turtle (about 15'), a spotted moray, several nurse sharks and an octopus. All this in addition to the usual array of parrotfish, trumpet fish, porcupine fish, scorpion fish and Blue Tangs. Definitely a great dive!

8th St in Pompano Beach Directions: Take Atlantic Blvd East, go south on A1A and make a left on 8th St. There are 3 parking meters to park at. There is a shower to rinse gear, too. Located in middle of a bunch of condos... This is a great beginner dive spot. The swim out to the first reef is pretty short in comparison to Lauderdale by the Sea. The first reef is just beyond the swim zone buoy. Swim out on your back just past it and then drop down. The second reef is about 100 yard due east. It has a small but nice ledge with a very decent reef. Forcee dive shop is very close. It is just west of the intracoastal in a strip mall on the south side of Atlantic Blvd. If you pass Flannigan's, you went too far. There is another dive shop by the dock on the east side of the intracoastal, but I don't know the name…

Great for beginner to intermediate scuba. Almost a five for snorkeling. Plenty of shops nearby for fills and for the occasional forgotten equipment. One shop is within a couple hundred feet, off main street. During our visit we saw a large school of 'Lookdown' near the pier, and several unidentified large fish.
