Snorkeling and Scuba Diving at Deerfield Ledges

I dove here in January 2002. I remember a large series of ledges inhabited by large numbers of fish. I really did not remember this as being as impressive as north Deerfield ledges were, but while I did not see any, I was told this is a good place to look for lobster. get off of the 95 at Hillsboro Blvd in Deerfield Beach. Go east to the A1A. Then go south on the A1A until you get to SE 5th Street. Once there go east for a short distance, then go S on S. Ocean way Follow this road, it will curve to the east. there will be parking at meters near the Cove Beach Club

Not much vis here. The water was pretty stirred up from the people on the beach....

Started off on a warm morning. We went to the Boca Inlet first and saw a few barracuda ranging from 14 inches to 3.5 feet. Very few formations on the bottom but very easy to find, with clear water on calm days. Lifeguards were helpful. Then we went a mile south to the Deerfield Beach ledges. They are located 100 feet off shore, a little deeper than the Boca Inlet formations. The ledges here range from 10' to 14'. First impressions were many tropical fish. A lot of parrot fish, blow fish, angel fish, every other color fish you can think of. We were an hour into our dive and came across a culvert pipe laying next to one of the larger ledges. I decided to investigate and there was a 5 foot nurse shark resting under the ledge next to the culvert pipe. Later that day we saw a small leopard shark (about 2 feet). It was a great day with a lot of fun.

Not a bad beach, but it did not seem to have anything that some of the nearby beaches had better...
